Muscat – As per the CPA statement, the consumer who purchased a new vehicle for RO 95,500 soon reported several issues, including air conditioning malfunctions, air leakage from doors and windows, and abnormal brake noises. Despite initial repair attempts by the dealership, the problems persisted, prompting the consumer to file a complaint with the CPA.
The CPA initiated legal procedures and facilitated discussions with the dealership, which agreed to an amicable settlement. The terms included the return of the vehicle, a deduction of RO 13,500 for depreciation and procedural costs, and a refund of RO 82,000 to the consumer.
This resolution was in accordance with Article 16 of the Consumer Protection Law, which allows consumers to return defective goods within 15 days of purchase.
The CPA underscores the importance of adherence to consumer protection laws and urges suppliers to ensure thorough technical inspections of vehicles before sale to prevent post-purchase issues.
