MUSCAT : The Consumer Protection Authority, represented by the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in Dhofar Governorate, kicked off the “Edrak” monitoring and awareness campaign as part of the Dhofar Khareef Season 2024. This comprehensive campaign will continue until August 23, targeting tourists and local residents.

Dr Abdul Hakeem bin Abdullah Al Ghailani, Director General of the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in Dhofar, highlighted the Authority’s continuous efforts in supervisory and awareness aspects. “The Consumer Protection Authority is making continuous efforts in the supervisory and awareness aspects, emphasizing the importance of community awareness regarding the regulations, laws and decisions issued by the Authority so that they are clear to the consumer and the merchant, in addition to monitoring and studying the markets, ensuring that suppliers and distributors do not exceed prices with the increase in the number of visitors and the crowding of markets with consumers, and combating commercial fraud; to preserve the safety of consumers; and to ensure the provision of services with the required quality,” he stated.

The campaign, designed to engage with the tourist season, includes activities and events across various tourist sites, heritage, and consumer markets. A dialogue session will bring specialists, local community representatives, suppliers, and merchants together to discuss consumer protection efforts and future aspirations.

A mobile awareness bus will also visit tourist sites, while a reporting office will be set up in the Atin Plain. The campaign features introductory meetings, lectures, competitions, and entertainment awareness events. An accompanying exhibition at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, an awareness forum in collaboration with the General Directorate of Culture, Sports, and Youth, and awareness clips about artificial intelligence are also planned.

Dr. Al Ghailani emphasized that the campaign aims to educate consumers about their rights and protect them while also informing suppliers and merchants about consumer rights. By promoting sound scientific means to disseminate information, the campaign seeks to establish correct and balanced consumer awareness across all societal segments, protect consumers from price fluctuations, combat commercial fraud and imitation, and monitor the prices of goods and services in the markets.
