MUSCAT : Othman bin Ali Al Hattali, Operations Manager at the Silal Central Market, highlighted the market’s ongoing efforts to advance the wholesale trade in the vegetable and fruit sector. He emphasized the market’s extensive range of equipment and facilities designed to support traders, importers, and exporters.

The market’s current capacity exceeds 25,000 tons for storing vegetables and fruits. Al Hattali noted that the facility’s design prioritizes the preservation of product quality, reducing spoilage and ensuring goods are stored in optimal conditions.

The Silal Central Market features an air-conditioned wholesale hall spanning 30,000 square meters and is equipped with 90 refrigerated warehouses, each covering 126 square meters. All available refrigerators are currently rented out, reflecting the high demand and importance of the market among traders.
In addition to its storage capabilities, the market boasts an integrated system for regulatory and administrative functions. It offers customs inspection, quarantine, and food safety services through a centralized inspection station and an integrated laboratory for sample analysis.

The market is designed to facilitate the easy entry of trucks, with seven dedicated gates accommodating various types of vehicles. Separate entrances for trucks and light vehicles help streamline operations, particularly during peak times.

Al Hattali also emphasized Silal Central Market’s commitment to supporting local agriculture. He described the market as an integrated hub for Omani agricultural products, which are received from various governorates and redistributed to main markets across the country. This initiative supports Omani farmers by providing facilities for the reception, inspection, and export of local products, thereby enhancing their economic value.
