MUSCAT: Nearly after two months of working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic, half of Oman’s public sector employees will return to their offices on Sunday, following the Supreme Committee’s orders.

The return to work will, however, be made with “intensified precautionary measures,” to protect workers from Covid-19.

Since April 1, the Supreme Committee had exempted 70 percent of government employees from attending work, except the 30 percent whose nature required their presence in the workplaces.

“The last two months has been a learning experience in every way. I really missed working from office and to get adjusted to the new norm of remote working was really tough at first. I have two kids at home and since their schools are also closed, it was getting difficult to focus on work. It’s good to get back but yes, I will have to be careful and follow the social distancing measures to ensure to protect myself,” said Muneera Al Maamari, a government employee, who will return to work on Sunday.

The Supreme Committee has also eased restrictions on movement by lifting the Muscat Governorate lockdown on Friday. However, the sanitary isolation in Wilayat Muttrah will stay unchanged. “All the checkpoints in Wilayat Muttrah (Darsait, Wadi Kabir, Hamriyah and Muttrah) will remain the way it is till another announcement,” said a senior Royal Oman Police official.

Oman on Saturday confirmed 603 new coronavirus cases, taking the total tally to 10,423.
