Muscat – The initiative involves assigning handling operations at land ports to private sector companies. These companies will utilize Omani cadres who have been trained in security control and customs procedures at the Sultan Qaboos Police Academy.

This strategic move is set to enhance both the economic and security aspects of the country in several key ways:

  1. Facilitating Commercial Movement: Ensuring the swift and smooth movement of goods through land ports, which will reduce time and increase the efficiency of supply chains.
  2. Ensuring Safety and Security: Conducting thorough inspections and verifications of shipments to prevent the entry of prohibited, counterfeit, or potentially harmful goods.
  3. Protecting the National Economy: Ensuring the correct application of customs duties and taxes, thereby increasing government revenues and protecting local industries from unfair competition.
    Project Goals:
  • Provision of qualified Omani nationals who are well-prepared to manage and operate handling operations at land ports.
  • Improving performance of the land transport sector for goods and increasing added value to the national economy.
  • Implementing electronic documentation of work to improve service quality and efficiency.
  • Application of advanced techniques and methodologies, and leveraging the best expertise and experience.
  • Improving services and simplifying procedures to achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Adopting governance and innovation standards to improve institutional performance.
