MUSCAT : Statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information highlight a significant rise in tourism to Al Jabal Al Akhdar during the first half of this year, with a total of 84,869 visitors compared to 79,034 in the same period last year, reflecting a 7.37% increase. Among these visitors, Omanis constituted 34,125, with notable numbers also coming from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and other Arab and foreign nationalities.

To capitalize on this growing interest, the “Green Mountain Summer” events are set to kick off tomorrow, Thursday. They will continue until September 14, 2024, at the picturesque Dusit Al Jabal Al Akhdar Hotel. These events are part of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate’s strategy to stimulate local tourism, featuring a rich array of cultural, social, sports, entertainment, and heritage activities.

Key highlights of the “Green Mountain Summer” include an exhibition for productive families and small enterprises, fostering local participation and creating temporary job opportunities. Concurrently, the ongoing “Romana” event, running until mid-September, focuses on agricultural tourism, promoting eco-friendly practices and showcasing local produce to enrich visitor experiences.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism continues to encourage investment in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, supporting the development of tourist resorts, hotels, and guesthouses to accommodate the growing influx of visitors. Known for its moderate summer climate and diverse recreational opportunities such as mountain climbing and hiking, Al Jabal Al Akhdar remains a premier destination for summer tourism in Oman.
