Muscat – The Ministry advises avoiding this substance as much as possible due to potential health concerns.
The statement explains the chemical Methyl-N-Methyl Anthranilate (MNM) as an aromatic compound commonly found in various beauty and personal care products, including perfumes, shampoos, luxury soaps, and other cosmetics.
Despite its widespread use, the Ministry advises consumers to avoid products containing this chemical and to exercise caution when purchasing cosmetic items.
Key guidelines issued by the Ministry include:
- MNM is permitted in rinse-off cosmetic and personal care products at concentrations not exceeding 0.2%.
- In leave-on cosmetic and personal care products, MNM is allowed at concentrations not exceeding 0.1%.
- Permanently prohibited in sunscreen products.
The Ministry’s warning aims to ensure consumer safety and prevent potential health risks associated with excessive exposure to MNM. Consumers are encouraged to check product labels and stay informed about the ingredients in their cosmetics and personal care items.
