Muscat – The NCSI population clock (July 14) shows that Omani nationals make up 56.75 percent, amounting to 2,957,297 individuals. Expatriates constitute 43.25 percent of the population, with a total of 2,253,724 residents.
These figures indicate a rise in the number of expatriates since the last year. Statistics show that the total population, as of September 2023, was 5,136,957, with 2,224,893 expatriates.
It is pertinent to note here that Oman’s expatriate population had bounced back to the pre-pandemic levels in the fourth quarter of 2022, when it crossed the two million mark. The number had dropped by 11 percent (218,000) in 2020.
Muscat continues to be the most populous governorate. As of October 2023, the governorate accounted for 1,473,624 of Oman’s total population, with Omanis comprising 38.9 percent and expatriates 61.1 percent.
