MUSCAT: The new Islamic year will commence in Oman on Sunday, July 7, after the Ministry of Religious and Endowment Affairs (MERA) confirmed the sighting of the Muharram moon on Saturday evening.
“The sighting of the crescent of the month of Muharram has been confirmed, and Sunday, July 7 is the first day of the new Hijri year,” MERA said in a statement.
