Muscat: The journey of India’s victorious T20 World Cup cricket team became a global phenomenon as their Air India special chartered flight, identified by the call sign ‘AIC24WC’ to commemorate their 2024 World Cup triumph, set a record on flight-tracking portals for over 15 hours. Departing from Barbados amidst challenges posed by Hurricane Beryl, the flight captured the world’s attention.

The flight-tracking portal, X (formerly known as Twitter), acknowledged the significance of the journey, declaring, “Our most tracked flight right now – T20 World Cup champions India on their way home.” The team had been stranded in Barbados following their final match against South Africa, navigating through adverse weather conditions before departing on July 3, 2024.

Back in India, despite a steady drizzle and stringent security measures, hundreds of ardent fans gathered at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Supporters braved the weather, waving national flags and holding placards adorned with messages of congratulations for their cricketing heroes.
