MUSCAT: The vast majority of people in the country are observing social-distancing guidelines to help flatten the worst of the Covid-19 outbreak but authorities have revealed that some people outside the Muscat governorate still flout the social distancing rules and continue to gather, which may lead to rise in cases.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Saif bin Salem Al Abri, Director General of Control of Infectious Disease at the Ministry of Health said 71% of recent infected cases happened due to community transmission. “We still find family gatherings in many places outside Muscat governorates. In some governorates people, including citizens, are still gathering and socializing. One affected person had 70 contacts within 24 hours. This posed a great challenge to us,” he said.
He urged both citizen and residents to strictly avoid family and community gatherings during the holy month of Ramadhan.
