Muscat – The Minister was addressing the ongoing Shura Council session hosted by H.E. Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Council.
Speaking about the institution, H.E. Dr. Al Mahrooqi stated, “The College’s problems began before 2018, and we held several meetings and visits, and we tried in every way to find a solution. We consider educational institutions to be an extension of the Ministry, and to ensure that the same problem is not repeated, we have cooperation, programs, and partnerships between institutions, and we have intensified visits.”
H.E. Dr. Al Mahrooqi also emphasized the Ministry’s approach to scholarship allocation, stating, “We divide scholarships among educational institutions based on their performance, and most institutions are stable and make profits.”
It may be recalled that the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation had issued Ministerial Decision No. 9/2024 to revoke the license granted to Sur University College. The decision, issued by H.E. Dr. Al Mahrooqi, was made in the interest of public welfare and based on the approval of the Council of Ministers.
H.E. Dr. Al Mahrooqi further revealed that a committee has been formed to study and draft a regulation for the Higher Education Law, which will soon be published in the Official Gazette. “We have formed a committee to study and draft a regulation for the Higher Education Law, and it will be published soon in the Official Gazette,” she noted.
