Oman and Algeria strengthen ties, vow support for Palestine

Oman and Algeria reaffirmed their strong historical and cultural ties during the eighth session of their Joint Committee held in Algiers.

ALGERIA: The Omani delegation, led by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and their Algerian counterparts, headed by Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, highlighted their satisfaction with existing political cooperation and coordination. They committed to further strengthening this collaboration on regional and international issues.

The meeting also saw praise for the leadership of both Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria.

Oman acknowledged Algeria’s vital role in promoting peace and stability on a regional and international scale. Similarly, Algeria commended Oman’s leadership and its unwavering support for just Arab and international causes.

The discussions also addressed regional and international developments, with both parties emphasizing the importance of Arab unity in confronting challenges facing the region, particularly the Palestinian issue. They strongly condemned the Israeli attacks against Palestinians, calling them war crimes and genocide.

Oman and Algeria reiterated their unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. They welcomed international support for Palestine, including the recent recognition of the Palestinian state by several European countries.

The meeting concluded with a call for a political solution to ongoing crises in Arab nations and a rejection of foreign interference.

The two countries also reviewed their existing bilateral cooperation and pledged to enhance collaboration in various sectors, including economics, trade, investment, and tourism. Several promising memorandums of understanding and executive programs were signed, paving the way for deeper cooperation in areas such as social development, the judiciary, youth, sports, and standardization.

The fruitful discussions between business representatives from both nations were also commended, highlighting the potential for joint ventures in energy, renewable energy, and other key sectors.
