MUSCAT : The workshop, attended by key stakeholders from both public and private sectors, reviewed strategic plans, challenges, and solutions to ensure the Sultanate meets its green hydrogen production goals. His Excellency Engineer Salem bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of Hydrom highlighted the significant strides made in this sector. Last April, eight major projects were signed, amounting to a $49 billion investment aimed at producing 1.38 million tons of green hydrogen.

Engineer Al Aufi emphasized the need for collaboration across various sectors, including contractors, workforce, permits, and logistics, to ensure the success of these projects. The development of the green hydrogen sector is poised to create job opportunities, spur economic growth, and integrate efforts between government and private entities.

Hydrom, the central coordinator of Oman’s green hydrogen sector, has allocated over 2,300 square kilometres for production projects out of a planned 50,000 square kilometres. Partnerships with companies from Asia, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East reflect strong international confidence in Oman’s green hydrogen potential.

Engineer Abdul Aziz bin Saeed Al-Shaythani, General Manager of Hydrome, expressed optimism that the workshop would enhance national readiness for these projects. He noted significant progress in developing infrastructure, such as ports and land transport, and streamlined permit processes.

Engineer Issam bin Ahmed Al Shaibani, Vice President of Sustainability at Asyad Group, reiterated the group’s alignment with Hydrom’s strategic plans, highlighting prepared port infrastructure and logistics systems to support the green hydrogen sector.

The workshop assessed the readiness of four key systems crucial to the green hydrogen sector’s growth: contractors, workforce, permits, and logistics. Discussions focused on boosting local contractor capabilities, developing workforce skills, streamlining permit processes, and expanding logistics infrastructure.
