MUSCAT : The project, spearheaded by the Green Ferro Alloy company, comes with a total investment of $68 million. It aims to bolster Sohar Port and the Free Zone’s standing as a global trade hub, addressing the growing demand for silicon metal in the markets of Asia, Europe, and North America.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah, and in the presence of various partners, alongside the executive management of the Sohar Port and Free Zone Company and the Green Ferro Alloy Company.

The silicon metal factory will span an area of 160,000 square meters, producing high-quality metallic silicon. In its first phase, the factory will have a capacity of 25,000 tons per year, which will double to 50,000 tons per year in the second phase. The production process involves pouring liquid silicon metal from a furnace into molds, cooling it, and then grinding and packing it for global export.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Al Kindi emphasized the industrial sector’s role as a key driver for comprehensive development in Oman. He highlighted that the establishment of the silicon metal factory is a significant strategic milestone in Oman’s economic development, enhancing trade and investment opportunities and opening new avenues for international cooperation in modern industries.

It reflects our full commitment to supporting all stages of the project efficiently and effectively, from the signing phase through obtaining all required permits to this significant milestone.”
