Oman reports over 460 cybersecurity incidents in 2023

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has released its third edition of digital indicators for the communications and information technology (ICT) sector, including cybersecurity figures for 2023.

Muscat – According to indicators issued by the National Center for Information Safety, a total of 461 cybersecurity incidents were reported by government institutions, aviation sector entities, and individuals. All reported incidents were successfully managed, and 128 government websites were secured.

The National Digital Forensic Laboratory dealt with 241 cases of digital evidence, while the ‘Threats Notification and Alert Service’ prepared and sent 86 notifications and alerts regarding security threats to targeted groups.

The report also highlighted the success of more than 30 million electronic transactions through various electronic certification systems, the issuance of over 3.5 million electronic certificates for various uses, and the provision of 235 electronic signature tools for employees of government and private institutions.
These indicators underscore the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance cybersecurity and support the digital transformation in Oman.
