Oman’s Environment Authority issues reminder on NORM waste management regulations

The Environment Authority is reminding all entities and companies in the government, private sector, and particularly those operating in the oil and gas sector, about regulations concerning Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) waste.

MUSCAT : This reminder is based on the Decision No. 79/2023 issued by the Environment Authority. The decision establishes regulations for radiation protection, the security and safety of radiation sources and nuclear materials, and the proper management and disposal of NORM waste.

In a statement issued online, the Authority underscored the necessity of adhering to the mentioned decision in order to avoid any legal action.

The Authority has also issued a guiding manual detailing the requirements for managing NORM waste safely. It includes submitting periodic reports using the approved templates.
