MUSCAT : This marks an increase from the 851 incidents reported in 2022 across various governorates in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Authority attributed the rise in farm fires to the failure to adhere to safety instructions, particularly during the summer months. They emphasized that following proper safety protocols is crucial to preventing such incidents.

The Authority issued several safety recommendations for farmers to protect lives and property:
• Store the fertilizers and pesticides in dedicated storage facility and avoid direct sunlight.
• Dispose of cigarette butts in a safe place away from any flammable material.
• Dispose of waste by burning it in small quantities in a dedicated place away from the trees.
• Choose the right time to burn the waste and avoid windy conditions.
• Do not start your BBQ fire near the trees and dried weeds and ensure putting the fire out before leaving the place.
• The farm fence should be of durable materials and of suitable height to provide protection.
The CDAA listed the following as reasons for farm fire:
• Fertilizer self-combustion
• High temperature
• Non-compliance with safety instructions
• Negligence
• Dried weeds
The Authority also highlighted the importance of cooperating with relevant authorities to create accessible roads between farms. This would facilitate the swift response of civil defense and ambulance teams during emergencies.
