Oman observes International Day against Illegal Fishing

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, participates in the International Day for the Fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing, which falls on June 5 each year.

Muscat – Oman is the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to join the Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (referred to in short as the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA).

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has endeavored to issue many important legislations, laws and tools that it has adopted in its plans and policies to protect fish resources, organize them and preserve them to ensure their sustainability and proper utilization to be renewable wealth.

Fisheries control is among the means taken by the Ministry to reach these levels of commitment and ensure the safety and sustainability of fish resources. It also pays full attention to fisheries control with the aim of ensuring that there are no abuses or violations in the waters of the Sultanate of Oman.
