Muscat – This improvement underscores the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance food security and ensure the safety and quality of its food supply.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has played a pivotal role in this achievement. The Ministry has emphasized the development of a strong food safety and quality system, aligning with its strategic goal of ensuring food safety and quality in accordance with established controls and legislation.
Key to these efforts has been the issuance and implementation of regulations, legislation, and laws designed to maintain high standards of food safety and quality. This includes the Oman Food Safety Law, which is enforced in partnership with various relevant authorities.
The Food Safety and Quality Center has been instrumental in preparing, updating, and adopting regulations and technical specifications for food products. Between 2022 and 2023, the Center prepared seven draft Gulf technical specifications and regulations, and reviewed 120 draft technical regulations and national and Gulf specifications.
The Ministry, through the Food Safety and Quality Center, continues to monitor and respond to developments in food safety and quality both locally and internationally. This is achieved through various official channels and sources, including the monitoring of food production establishments, inspecting food products, verifying laboratory reports and labeling information, and ensuring that products in local markets meet the required standards.
