NEW YORK: Joaquin Phoenix has finally won his first Oscar for survival epic The Joker, after four academy awards nominations.
Phoenix’s weight-dropping, cringe-inducing performance in “Joker” earned him every major award throughout the pre-Oscar award season. His performance in “Joker” has won Phoenix Best Actor awards at the Golden Globes, the Critics’ Choice Awards, the SAG Awards, and the BAFTA Film Awards.
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt has won the best supporting actor Oscar for his role as Cliff Booth in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood at the 92nd Academy Awards. Pitt saw off strong competition from Al Pacino and Joe Pesci for The Irishman, Tom Hanks for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and Anthony Hopkins for The Two Popes.
