Muscat – According to the annual report of OHRC, these cases, encompassing a range of human rights concerns, were addressed through cooperation and coordination with relevant parties and institutions. The commission provided legal opinions and directed the individuals involved to appropriate authorities for further action.
The Commission received 65 cases pertaining to civil and political rights, economic, social, and cultural rights, environmental and development rights; it offered human rights advice on 458 topics, guiding citizens and residents to the appropriate authorities for follow-up.
The Commission conducted numerous field visits across various governorates of Oman, including inspections of the central prison and detention centers, to review cases of inmates and detainees, as well as conditions at workplaces.
The OHRC highlighted the positive impact of Royal orders which led to the release of approximately 864 inmates, both citizens and non-citizens, in 2023.
The Commission closely monitored reports from international governmental and non-governmental bodies regarding the human rights situation in Oman. It also responded to questionnaires from United Nations special rapporteurs, coordinating with relevant parties to verify and respond to these inquiries.
In 2023, the OHRC intensified its awareness programs, organizing several seminars, forums, and lectures aimed at educating various segments of society about human rights issues.
The OHRC actively participated in numerous international conferences and seminars organized by prominent human rights institutions.
