Muscat – “This practice not only impacts health and the environment but also imposes economic burdens, including increased costs for cleaning and maintenance services, and pest control contracts,” states the Municipality

Pointing out that feeding of birds in public areas can have several negative effects on the surrounding environment, the Municipality lists the following:

  • Creates breeding grounds for insects, worms, and parasites
  • Causes unpleasant odors due to exposure of food to sunlight and moisture
  • Bird droppings carry viruses, bacteria, and fungi, leading to diseases
  • Distorts the appearance of buildings, sidewalks, and streets
  • Damages ventilation and cooling systems
  • Increases expenses for cleaning, maintenance, and pest control contracts.
