Muscat – These decisions revolve around the allocation of government support to the Oman Olympic Committee and amendments to the statute of government-supported sports federations.

The issuance of the two decisions comes within the strategic directions of the Ministry regarding reviewing legislation and regulations related to the sports sector, with the aim of governing the work of sports federations and enhancing the role of sports bodies so as to enable them to carry out the role assigned to them at the local and international levels and address the challenges that hinder the work of sports federations.

The decision to amend some provisions of Ministerial Resolution No. 23/2021 pertains to the adoption of a model statute for government-supported sports federations. It aims to streamline the operations of sports federations by limiting the number of Board of Directors members to seven. This adjustment seeks to foster greater collaboration between the Board of Directors and the executive management to achieve the federation’s objectives.

Additionally, the decision mandates that members of the Board of Directors and the Secretary-General possess appropriate academic qualifications and technical expertise, ensuring robust leadership within sports federations.

The revised statute also ensures dedicated seats for athletes and women in the Board of Directors, fostering inclusivity and leveraging valuable perspectives.
Also, the Secretary-General position becomes an appointed role, separate from the Board, aiming for a more streamlined executive structure.

The second decision pertains to the controls for allocating and disbursing government support to the Oman Olympic Committee, emphasizing adherence to stringent criteria for receiving government assistance. These criteria include the approval of the committee’s statute by its General Assembly and alignment with the principles of the Olympic Charter and local laws. Additionally, the decision mandates that the Chairman of the Board of Directors and other members hold recognized university qualifications, with exemptions for athletes.

Furthermore, the decision underscores the importance of gender and athlete representation within the General Assembly and the Board of Directors, promoting inclusivity and diversity within the committee’s leadership and decision-making bodies.
