Muscat: The seminar will bring together 70 participants and experts from various national and regional centres across the region.

With the participation of experts and stakeholders from multiple countries bordering the northwest Indian Ocean, the event promises robust discussions and collaborative strategies.

One of the seminar’s central themes is the development of accurate tsunami inundation maps, which are crucial for understanding the potential impact of tsunamis on coastal areas. By employing advanced modelling techniques, participants aim to create detailed maps that can aid decision-making during emergencies.

Moreover, the seminar will delve into the intricacies of designing effective evacuation plans tailored to the unique challenges posed by tsunamis. This includes factors such as population density, infrastructure vulnerabilities, and the availability of evacuation routes.

Notably, this seminar is a follow-up to a previous workshop that addressed various aspects of tsunami awareness, warnings, and response strategies. It is part of broader initiatives such as the Enhanced Tsunami Warning in the Northwest Indian Ocean Project led by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Indian Ocean and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO.
