MUSCAT : Key agenda of the meeting included the ratification of minutes from the previous session and recommendations regarding Be’ah (Oman Environmental Services Holding) Company’s waste management strategies for Muscat, with the focus on creating a unified system for safe waste disposal and achieving environmental sustainability.
The initiative seeks to raise public awareness about safe waste disposal practices to foster environmental sustainability and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Addressing concerns about scrap collection activities, the Council reviewed proposals from the Legal Affairs Committee regarding the implementation challenges of regulating scrap collection and trading in the region. The proposed regulation aims to curb disturbances caused by unauthorized scrap collection vehicles in residential areas, ensuring compliance with regulations and minimizing environmental and economic impacts.
The Council also discussed a program to strengthen family life and provide marital guidance to couples with the aim of promoting of promoting family values and marital awareness among community members. Collaborative efforts with rehabilitation centers and social development committees aim to provide necessary support to soon-to-be-married individuals across Muscat Governorate.
Discussions also centered on the Health and Environment Affairs Committee’s recommendations regarding an advanced boats project, overseen by the Oman Investment Authority. The project aims to modernize the Omani fishing fleet, enhance fishing techniques, improve working conditions for fishermen, and ensure the safety and security of onboard operations.
The project includes the introduction of approximately 200 advanced fishing boats through stages, with lengths ranging from 10 to 14 meters, with specifications that meet the requirements of rational and responsible fishing and provide suitable working conditions for the fishermen.
