MUSCAT : As per the CPA statement, a commercial establishment in the Wilayat of Al Musanna was engaging in the sale of counterfeit and non-original motor oil products. Subsequent inspections by judicial officers confirmed the veracity of these claims, as evidence revealed that the establishment was distributing motor oils falsely labeled as ‘New’ from reputable brands.

Further investigations, including sampling and laboratory analysis, exposed the fraudulent activities of the establishment. It was discovered that the containers purportedly containing original motor oils were in fact adulterated, as they were not securely sealed and had been refilled with substandard products. Upon confrontation, the owner of the establishment admitted complicity in the illegal activities, acknowledging the absence of the worker who had fled the country.

In accordance with Article 40 of the Consumer Protection Law (Royal Decree No. 66/2014), which prohibits the trading of fraudulent, corrupt, or counterfeit goods, the defendants were found guilty of violating consumer rights. The court ruling mandated imprisonment for one year, a fine of RO 2,000, and the deportation of the representative of the establishment upon completion of the sentence.
Additionally, the court ordered the confiscation of the fraudulent materials and imposed the obligation to cover the costs of the public lawsuit.
