MUSCAT : It indicated that the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations had uncovered a concerning new fraudulent scheme aimed at unsuspecting youngsters in Oman. This scheme involves deceptive job announcements via SMS, enticing individuals with promises of lucrative online businesses and financial gains.
“Investigations have detected a new fraudulent activity targeting youngsters, whereby a fraudulent announcement for fake jobs is sent via SMS in order to lure the victims and persuade them to carry out specific online businesses in return for financial profits. Once these amounts are transferred to their bank accounts, they are asked to pay money to obtain a tempting prize, followed by other requests without the victims realizing that they have fallen victim to an organized scam,” the ROP announcement stated.
