MUSCAT: The Omani Lawyers Association (OLA) on Sunday launched the 11th edition of the Fak Kurba initiative that is aimed to help secure the release of citizens who were imprisoned for failing to meet financial obligations.

The initiative which will run for two months aims to raise financial donations to help people who are imprisoned due to claims
in civil, commercial, legitimate or labour cases.

Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Zadjali, President of the Omani Lawyers Association, supervising the initiative, said that the 11th edition of the initiative for this year, comes as a complement to the efforts of the initiative from lawyers. The initiative, according to Dr. Zadjali, has been able to release more than 5890 cases since 2012.

“In the initial edition in 2012, ten lawyers volunteered and contributed by assisting in the release of 44 prisoners. Last year we could release 925 people across all governorates,” Al Zadjali added.
