MUSCAT: Around 38 per cent of investors at the Muscat Securities Market (MSM) are expats, according to a new report by the National Center of Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The NCSI data also revealed that 62 per cent of investors are Omanis, who are the largest group of share purchasers while 31 per cent of investors were from other GCC countries. 6 per cent were foreigners and 1 per cent of investors are from other Arab nationalities.
Nearly 45 per cent of Oman’s population are expatriates who remit around a staggering OMR 4 billion every year. “In my opinion expatriates should be encouraged to invest in Oman including the Muscat Securities Market. It will certainly boost the Omani economy,” said a trade analyst in Muscat.
