MUSCAT : Commencing commercial operations at the Duqm Refinery is set to elevate Oman’s total refining capacity to over 500 thousand barrels daily, with an estimated refining capacity of approximately 230 thousand barrels daily. The refinery’s prominence stems from its dedication to innovation and the integration of cutting-edge technologies, including modern hydrocarbon crushing and coking units. Moreover, focusing on economic optimization and adherence to stringent environmental standards underscores the refinery’s commitment to sustainable practices across all operations.
The refinery is positioned within the Duqm Special Economic Zone and is pivotal in transforming the region into a bustling industrial and economic hub. Leveraging its strategic maritime location on the eastern coast of Oman, the refinery emerges as a key player in exporting petroleum products to global markets, offering diverse derivatives such as liquefied petroleum gas, naphtha, diesel, and jet fuel, among others.
Before its official inauguration, the refinery conducted successful trial operations, meticulously testing supply chains, crude oil storage facilities, and product export capabilities at the Port of Duqm. Notably, the refinery achieved a significant milestone by exporting its first shipment of high-quality diesel and other petroleum products, signalling operational readiness and efficiency.
