MUSCAT : Hyundai Motor Company’s groundbreaking hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck XCIENT Fuel Cell recently made its debut in Oman during the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman (GHSO2023) Summit & Exhibition held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) in Muscat during 12 – 15 December 2023. It marked the introduction of the first hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck in the Sultanate of Oman, underscoring Hyundai’s steadfast commitment to sustainable transportation solutions for both consumer and commercial vehicles.

Fresh from its appearances during the COP28 conference on climate change in Dubai, the award-winning Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell took center stage as ‘The First Hydrogen Truck in Oman’, drawing a significant crowd of visitors and delegates eager to explore its innovative technologies.

Developed and engineered by Hyundai with a primary focus on the commercial shipping sector, the XCIENT Fuel Cell stands out for its remarkable emissions-free profile, offering a sustainable mobility solution to address global transportation needs while mitigating carbon emissions. Its durability and fuel efficiency align seamlessly with the demands of commercial fleet operators.

Launched in 2020 as the world’s first mass-produced heavy-duty fuel cell electric truck, the XCIENT Fuel Cell already operates in five countries, and has been driven a cumulative range of more than 8.7 million kilometers in Switzerland alone. It stands as the only heavy-duty fuel cell electric model with a proven record of real-world application and technological reliability. Initial deployments, well-received in Switzerland, Germany, the United States, and other countries, have garnered praise for their reliability and eco-friendliness.

With a rapid refueling time, proven operational success, and an impressive range of over 400 km on a single charge, the XCIENT Fuel Cell sets the standard for eco-friendly driving efficiency. It features an advanced fuel cell system provided by

HTWO, a fuel cell system-based hydrogen business brand of Hyundai Motor Group. The triple battery array, capable of storing up to 72 kWh of energy, ensures stable performance. In terms of safety, the hydrogen tanks undergo rigorous testing, including 1.5 m drop, penetration, fire, and burst pressure tests, meeting stringent European standards.

In the Sultanate of Oman, Hyundai is represented by OTE Group, the exclusive distributor of esteemed international automotive brands such as Cadillac, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Isuzu, Subaru, and Genesis.
