Muscat – The resolution, proposed by 21 Arab states, emphasizes the urgent need to halt hostilities in Gaza to facilitate humanitarian access. It also advocates for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees, aligning with the Secretary-General’s plea to the President of the Security Council on December 6th under Article 99 of the UN Charter.

Ambassador Dennis Francis, President of the UN General Assembly, reconvened the emergency special session on “Illegal Israeli actions in East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.” Stressing the pressing need to end civilian suffering in compliance with international humanitarian law, the Assembly called for an immediate ceasefire, echoing the sentiments for humanitarian grounds.
