Oman’s 21st annual camel racing festival kicks off with spectacular showdowns

Today marked the inauguration of the much-awaited sixth race competitions, "qualifiers," as part of the 21st annual camel racing festival organized by the Oman Camel Racing Federation.

Muscat – Set against the majestic backdrop of Al Bashaer Camel Racing Field in Adam, within the governorate of the interior, this enthralling three-day event commenced with fervour.
The day’s racing fervour witnessed a gripping showdown, featuring 18 thrilling runs for the Pilgrims category, 12 for Firstborns and 6 for Al-Qadan, spanning a challenging 3-kilometre distance. The spirited event drew participation from around 580 camels hailing from various governorates across the Sultanate of Oman.

These winning camels have now secured coveted spots in the first and second rounds of the ultimate showdown, the final cup of His Majesty the Sultan for camel racing in the 2023/2024 season. Scheduled to be held at Al-Haggana Sultaniya track in Al-Falej, Wilayat of Barka, South Batinah Governorate, the final race is a pinnacle event expected to witness fierce competition among the finest camels.
The racing spirit continues tomorrow, on the second day of the sixth race competitions at Al-Bashaer in Adam, promising an enthralling lineup of 12 runs for the Laqaya category, spanning a challenging 4-kilometre stretch.
