NEW DELHI – Initially launched for photos and videos in 2021, this latest enhancement is currently under trial for Android and iOS users using the app’s beta version.
In the latest update, WhatsApp has introduced the ability to send voice messages that self-destruct after being listened to—a notable step towards ensuring enhanced privacy for users. This “View Once” feature allows users to mark voice notes as ‘View Once,’ ensuring that once the recipient listens to the message, it vanishes without a trace, preventing any saving, forwarding, exporting, or recording.
Whether sharing sensitive information like credit card details with a friend or planning a surprise, users can now communicate securely via voice messages with added peace of mind. Similar to the ‘View Once’ feature for photos and videos, these voice notes are prominently marked with the ‘one-time’ icon and are playable just once.
WhatsApp reassures users about safeguarding their private conversations, emphasizing that the ‘View Once’ voice messages, like all personal chats, are protected by default end-to-end encryption. This move underscores the app’s ongoing commitment to privacy innovation.
The rollout of ‘View Once’ voice messages will be made available globally over the next few days, further enhancing the platform’s privacy-centric offerings.
