Muscat – The survey, to be conducted from December 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024, aims to develop the tourism sector by providing reliable information and supporting decision makers in the sector, as part of the economic diversification goal of Oman Vision 2040.

It will target visitors arriving and departing via Muscat International Airport, Salalah Airport and six land ports – Khatmat Malaha, Al-Wajjah, Al-Khatm crossing, Hamasa, Hafeet, and Al-Dara crossing.

Data will be collected through direct interviews with visitors arriving and departing through Muscat International Airport, Salalah Airport, and land ports during 232 days distributed over the days of the year.

Announcing the launch of the project, His Excellency Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of NCSI stated: “Through this project, the total number of tourists visiting the Sultanate of Oman will be estimated, and their demographic, economic, and social characteristics will be measured.

“It should be noted that the information that will be extracted from this project will help in understanding the real status of the tourism sector in the Sultanate of Oman, and thus contribute to help in working on developing appropriate plans and addressing the challenges facing this sector.

“We also call on all respondents included in the sample to cooperate with the researchers and give them the accurate required data. All individual data will be considered confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes, which is a right guaranteed by the Statistics and Information Law, promulgated by Royal Decree No (55/2019)”.
