MUSCAT : The Municipality stated that it is converting the existing service road – adjacent to the main Sultan Qaboos Street in the Al Khuwair area – into a one-way road with the aim of enhancing traffic flow and ensure smooth movement, as it is vital area with commercial activities, establishments and facilities.

The project will include conversion of service roads to one-way roads with two lanes in one direction, starting from the Al Khuwair Street intersection, Road No. 3534, until the ministries’ street intersection.
Two additional entry points will be implemented to Sultan Qaboos Main Street, from midway, along the service road to the end of the service road, in order to reduce additional commuting time.

Besides, a number of side roads will be converted into one-way roads in order for traffic to flow smoothly. The project will also include construction of new pedestrian sidewalks, improved parking facilities, and utility services; new road link over the adjacent water canal to facilitate pedestrian movement on the path and the use of public transportation.

The project aims to deal with traffic congestion in one direction and thus avoid traffic hazards and turns; increase traffic efficiency and ease of movement and access between internal neighborhoods and regions; it will serve public facilities and enhance commercial activity in the region; and develop and improve the area, adding aesthetic touches to it.
