Oman affirms GCC support to promote human rights

MUSCAT : The Forum, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, witnessed the participation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights of the League of Arab States.


Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs, during a reception of the heads of delegations of the Gulf Forum for Human Rights Institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, affirmed that the GCC countries will continue to protect and promote human rights as an embodiment of the dignity and respect for the rights guaranteed by Islamic law and the established values and principles.


His Highness expressed appreciation for the efforts being made to strengthen the bonds of cooperation between human rights institutions in the countries of the region and the mechanisms through which these institutions operate in accordance with international conventions.


His Highness reviewed the process of comprehensive construction according to an integrated system based on justice and complete equality among all citizens in rights and duties. He stressed that human rights in the Sultanate of Oman are protected through the principles included in the Basic Law of the State, as well as national laws and legislation issued in this regard.
