Muscat – The Consumer Protection Authority in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate received complaints from consumers who indicated that they commissioned two commercial establishments to install kitchens.
The first establishment did not commit to the job at the agreed upon time and did not provide the consumer with an Arabic invoice proving his purchase and receipt of the service.
Following the complaint, the Administration took necessary measures and referred it to the Public Prosecution, which convicted the establishment of the misdemeanor of failure to perform the service and the failure to provide an invoice in Arabic.
The court ordered a fine of OMR 300 for the first misdemeanor and a fine of OMR 100 for the second misdemeanor. The court ordered the establishment to repay the plaintiff OMR 560 and bear the legal expenses. The court also ordered the suspension of the penalty if the establishment paid the amount awarded within one month from the date of the ruling.
The second case involved a complaint from a consumer against an establishment that failed to fabricate an aluminum door and a glass partition for his home within the agreed upon time. The establishment also did not commit to providing the consumer with an invoice in Arabic. The complaint was referred to the Public Prosecution, and the Court ordered the establishment to be fined OMR 100 for each of the two misdemeanors.
The Consumer Protection Authority calls on all merchants and suppliers to abide by the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law, its executive regulations, and the decisions issued by the Authority. It also urges them to commit to transparency and credibility, and to refrain from misleading advertising when promoting goods and services.
