Muscat – In participation with experts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the United States of America, and the Omani Future Seas team, the Authority is implementing the project to study the success rate of Al Rimani turtle nests in the Wilayat of Masirah, in the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah.

The project aims to conduct field study and field surveys to determine the numbers of young Al Rimani turtles, the extent of the success of their nests, identify the difficulties they face, and develop practical solutions for them, in addition to strengthening the national capabilities of ecosystem supervisors on Masirah Island, Halaniyat Islands, Daymaniyat Islands, and Ras Al-Hadd.

The project will be implemented over a period of 5 years (from 2022) in implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the government of the Sultanate of Oman and the government of the United States in the field of environment and wildlife conservation.

It is noteworthy that field surveys are conducted annually during the period from May to October, during which turtle nests are counted, dug and numbered, eggs are examined and their safety is ensured.
