Marriages in Oman witness 20% drop

Data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) shows that the total number of marriages in 2022 declined by 20% when compared to 2021

MUSCAT : The total number of registered marriages in 2022 stood at 15,400, while the number was 19,294 in 2021, showing a decrease of 20 percent.

Of the 15,400 marriages in 2022, 14,127 were between Omani citizens, 613 between Omanis and foreigners and 82 between Omanis and Gulf citizens. Highest number of marriages was recorded in the Muscat Governorate, with the number reaching 3,162.

Figures for marriages between 2017 and 2021 shows that the number was highest in 2017 with 22,284 marriages; it fell to 20,005 in 2018, 18,243 in 2019, and 18,621 in 2020.
