MUSCAT : Lawmakers and member states of the European Union (EU) have agreed to a complete overhaul of the Schengen Visa System, to make it largely digital. According to the lead MEP on the issue, Matjaz Nemec, Visa applicants will find this new system easier, cheaper, and faster. The Schengen area comprises almost all 27 EU member countries, except Cyprus, Ireland, Bulgaria, and Romania.
Sweden’s Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard stated that the change also increases the security of the Schengen area by, for example, reducing the risk of falsification and theft of the visa sticker.
