MUSCAT – A duty-free market is a licensed building or premises where goods are stored under duty-free status for display and sale, while a free zone is a designated part of a country’s territory where commercial or industrial activities operate under specific regulations, with goods generally treated as outside the normal customs territory.
The clarification comes as Oman moves to establish duty-free markets at the Al Wajajah, Khatmat Malaha and Rub Al Khali land border crossings, following a decision issued by Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shuraqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs.
