MUSCAT: The authority said teams responded promptly after receiving the initial report and successfully contained the fire and extinguished the remaining hotspots. A preliminary assessment indicated that the likely cause was a lightning strike, with no indications of human involvement, according to a clarification issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
However, the fire re-ignited on Monday evening at another location and across a wider area, prompting the Royal Oman Police Aviation to begin firefighting operations. Those operations remain ongoing, with Environment Authority field teams participating in and monitoring the response.
The authority said it will continue monitoring the situation and conduct a comprehensive field survey after the fire has been fully extinguished. The survey will seek to confirm that no active hotspots remain, assess any environmental impact and determine the necessary measures to protect the site and its vegetation.
