GUWAHATI : Captain Shubman Gill smashed an unbeaten 223 and Rohit Sharma struck a century as India chased down 406 to beat West Indies by eight wickets in the second one-day international on Wednesday.
India reached 406 for two in 43.3 overs at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, winning with 39 balls to spare and taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Gill finished unbeaten on 223 off 133 deliveries, with Ruturaj Gaikwad alongside him on 31.
The chase was India’s highest successful pursuit in ODIs and the second-highest in the format’s history, behind South Africa’s chase of 435 against Australia in Johannesburg in 2006.

Rohit laid the foundation with 101 off 75 balls, sharing a 255-run opening partnership with Gill. He also passed 12,000 ODI runs, becoming the third Indian to reach the milestone after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
Gill maintained the momentum after Rohit’s dismissal, reaching his second ODI double century in 117 balls, the fastest in the format’s history.
Earlier, West Indies posted their highest ODI total of 405 for seven, powered by centuries from John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114). Their landmark batting effort ultimately proved insufficient against India’s dominant reply.
