Muscat: Oman’s national tent pegging team has secured a place in the World Cup finals after an impressive performance in the qualifying competition hosted by the Sultanate of Oman.

The qualifiers, organised by the Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation at the Royal Oman Police Cavalry track, brought together teams from Oman, the United States, Qatar, Iran, Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

The six nations competed for two direct qualification places for the World Cup finals, scheduled to be held in Jordan next November.

Pakistan topped the overall standings, while Oman finished second to seal qualification.

The closing ceremony was held under the patronage of His Excellency Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth.

On the opening day, Iran’s Salman Ghashlaqi claimed first place in the individual competition, followed by Pakistan’s Wajahatullah in second and Qatar’s Ibrahim Al Hammadi in third.

In the team category, Pakistan took first place, Qatar finished second and Iran came third.

Pakistan strengthened its position on the second day, sweeping the top three individual places. Wajahatullah finished first, Muhammad Sagheer second and Muhammad Naseer third.

Pakistan also topped the team standings on the day, followed by Iran in second place and Oman in third.

On the third and final day, Pakistan continued its dominance in the individual competition, with Tasawar Abbas taking first place, Muhammad Sagheer finishing second and Muhammad Naseer securing third.

In the team category, Pakistan once again claimed first place, while Oman delivered a strong performance to finish second and confirm its qualification for the World Cup finals.

Qatar finished third and advanced to the continental play-off, where it will compete against other teams for another opportunity to secure a place in the next World Championship.
