TOKYO : Oman, represented by the Oman Olympic Committee, took part in the opening ceremony at Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya, with the Omani delegation headed by His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, President of the Oman Olympic Committee, alongside a number of committee officials.

More than 35,000 spectators attended the ceremony, which began at 6:00 pm local time and featured artistic and cultural performances highlighting the identity of Aichi and Nagoya, Japanese culture and the wider cultural diversity of Asia.

The ceremony was built around the Asian Games slogan, “Imagine One Asia,” with a heart and its beat used as a symbol connecting athletes, spectators and the continent’s diverse cultures. Organisers placed particular emphasis on people, movement and local cultural identity rather than relying primarily on modern technology.

Following the raising of the Japanese flag and the playing of the national anthem, delegations from the 45 participating countries entered the stadium in alphabetical order.

Oman was the 27th delegation to enter, with shooting athlete Butti bin Hamid Al-Shibli carrying the Sultanate’s flag. Japan entered last, in line with Asian Games protocol, preceded by the refugee team.

After the parade of nations, a representative of Nagoya welcomed participants and spectators, pledging to deliver a memorable sporting event.

Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, also addressed the ceremony, welcoming the Emperor of Japan and guests while underlining the importance of further developing sport across Asia and strengthening the values of unity and success.

His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said said Oman’s participation represented an important milestone for national sport and provided athletes, coaches and administrative personnel with an opportunity to experience high-level continental competition.

He said the Games would allow Omani athletes to interact with different Asian sporting schools, gain experience and strengthen their preparation for future competitions.

His Highness added that major continental sporting events demonstrate the power of sport to promote communication and closer ties between peoples while helping athletes and sports professionals further develop their capabilities.

Oman is competing in 10 sports at the Games, reflecting the diversity of the Sultanate’s participation and giving national athletes the opportunity to test themselves against different levels, approaches and styles of competition.

His Highness said the Oman Olympic Committee had worked to complete all preparations and create suitable conditions for the delegation and national teams, stressing that cooperation and coordination between the various parties remain key to supporting athletes during major international competitions.

He wished all Omani athletes success, urging them to give their best and represent the Sultanate through commitment, discipline and sportsmanship, while making full use of the experience gained both during competition and through interaction with athletes from across Asia.
