LUANDA : His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik concluded a two-day State Visit to Angola on Friday, wrapping up a visit that saw the two countries strengthen political and economic ties and sign a series of agreements across key sectors.

During the visit, His Majesty held talks with Angolan President João Lourenço at the Presidential Palace in Luanda, where the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and discussed opportunities to expand trade, investment and cooperation.

The visit was marked by the signing of five agreements and eight memoranda of understanding, with His Majesty saying the agreements and MoUs associated with the visit were valued at more than $1.5 billion.

The deals covered areas including taxation, air transport, technical cooperation, investment, agriculture, energy, logistics and defence, alongside political consultations and diplomatic training.

Energy cooperation included plans for a potential 500-megawatt renewable energy project in Angola with a battery energy storage system, as well as potential partnerships across the oil sector and oilfield services.

His Majesty said during the visit that Oman and Angola were seeking to double bilateral trade in the coming years, noting that current trade levels did not reflect the depth of the economic partnership between the two countries.

Angolan President Lourenço also highlighted the opening of the Oman-Africa Bank in Angola and the entry of Omani companies into the country’s mining sector as tangible outcomes of growing bilateral cooperation.

His Majesty’s visit to Angola followed his State Visit to Botswana and formed part of Oman’s efforts to expand political, economic and investment ties with African countries.
