Oman Meteorology issues weather alerts for thunderstorms, strong winds and rain

Oman Meteorology has issued weather alerts, warning of thunderstorms, downburst winds and strong winds across several areas of the Sultanate on September 9, with rain and thunderstorms also expected in parts of Dhofar Governorate.

MUSCAT: Thunderstorms and downburst winds or downdrafts are expected from 1 pm in parts of the Al Hajar Mountains and adjacent areas, with a medium potential impact.

A separate warning for active or strong winds began at 8 am, covering Al Jazir, Duqm, Ja’alan Bani Bu Ali, Sadah, Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands, and Mahout. The potential impact is classified as medium.

In Dhofar Governorate, thunderstorms are expected from 5 pm in parts of the desert areas, with a limited or low potential impact.

Rain is also expected from noon in Rakhyut, Salalah, Taqah, Mirbat and Thumrait, with the potential impact classified as limited or low.
