MUSCAT : White Rose Nursery in Darsait recently hosted a vibrant and colorful Onam celebration, brought to life through the enthusiastic participation of children, parents, and staff.
The ceremony commenced with a prayer by Lulu Robin. Principal Mariamma Thomas, accompanied by the teaching staff, officially inaugurated the festivities by lighting the traditional lamp (Bhadradeepam).
In her inaugural address, Principal Mariamma Thomas highlighted the nostalgic and cultural significance of the festival. “Onam is, in a sense, a journey back to our childhood, as our happiest memories are often intertwined with it,” she said. “The true essence of Onam—a festival of unity, brotherhood, and prosperity—is often unfamiliar to children growing up in the expatriate world. Therefore, this celebration is designed not only to introduce our children to the authentic sweetness of Onam, but also to take adults on a nostalgic trip back to the good old days.”

The inauguration was followed by a rich cultural extravaganza. Children, parents, and teachers collaborated to present a variety of performances, including traditional dances, Vanchippattu (boat songs), Onappattu (traditional Onam songs), Thiruvathira, light music, Onakkali (traditional Onam games), and various engaging competitions.
The event was well-attended by media personnel and individuals from various walks of life.
Parents expressed their deep appreciation for the event, noting that White Rose Nursery successfully provided children—who had previously only heard stories about the festival—with the rare opportunity to experience a genuine, traditional Onam celebration firsthand.
The program was gracefully hosted by Neenu Lijo. Teacher Ashwini delivered the welcome address, and Teacher Anusha proposed the vote of thanks. The event was seamlessly coordinated by teachers Jisha, Ashwathi, Shana, and Najma.
The joyous and lively celebration concluded with a sumptuous, traditional Onasadya (Onam feast) served to all attendees.
